Scott Pattinson

Canadian Abstract Artist

Artist Statement

There is an intense energy in the present moment where I attempt to capture ephemeral situations of light and interactions of positional vibrancy. I intend to conjure illusions of space (atmospheres) through the act of painting yet I submit tangible artifacts of emotion such as passion and sensuality in order to build engaging relationships. Sensible proportions, depths, steps, planes, voids, and obtuse geometries reach out to each other to communicate the tension between control and chaos which exists always in the temporal ‘now’. I wish to describe this tension in the act of viewing, as in the act of painting, before the moment is lost into a past tense.

This work also particularly considers material culture and the vanishing of our ability to live simply in an increasingly complex world where industry aggressively fosters insensitive developments that fail to prioritize social and environmental structures that heighten our spirituality and contribute to our understanding of life and the present moment.

Pattinson is represented at the Thielsen Gallery in London, Quartier Libre Galerie in Montréal, Agnes Bugera Gallery in Edmonton, Venus Gallery in Aurora, and Oeno Gallery in Bloomfield, Canada. He paints from his studio in Guelph, and Muskoka, ON.
